Honorary
President's Message
The Singapore
Watercolour Society is probably the oldest watercolour society in this part of the world. For more than three
decades, the Society has organised and participated in major exhibitions
in Singapore and abroad. Many members have won awards in exhibitions and competitions in various
parts of the world. The Society has frequently been invited to represent
Singapore at international seminars and talks on the medium.
The Society
has organised outdoor watercolour demonstrations for schools as
part of the National Arts Council's Arts Education Programme. We
encourage students to visit our society premises and to talk to
our members on the technique as well to view their works in progress.
Outdoor painting
has been a tradition of the Society since its inception in 1969. Members have been meeting every Sunday and public
holiday to paint either in Singapore or in Johore. We have often
organised overseas trips for paintings and visits to major exhibitions
of watercolour paintings. During these outings we exchange views
and discuss our work, techniques as well the latest trend in watercolour
painting.
As the Internet
has become a necessity for almost everyone in this age of modern
technology, the Society has through the effort of a newly elected,
younger committee designed a website. This website not only offers
first-hand information on the Society but also serves as a channel
of communication through which members can express their views and
carry out discussions on matters of common interest on-line.
I wish to congratulate
the Singapore Watercolour Society on the launch of this webiste.
I wish you all
success on this happy occasion .
